Today it begins. I used to be a photographer. As silly as that sounds that is the case. I sold all my gear after working as a photojournalist and owning a small studio to start a new career as a teacher, father, and husband, all of which has been great, but recently I have been bitten by the bug again. I have started investing a bunch of money back in to my gear and have begun to see the world through the eyes of a lens again. I have forgotten how much fun it is!

Well today my newest shipment arrived. A gently used Canon 70-200 f4 IS and a 1.4 teleconverter. So what better plays to give it a run than at the high school baseball game. I haven't shot a baseball game in over 10 years, but man was it a blast! So it has inspired me to stop lurking around here and start playing. I may not make it on a daily basis, but for now, I am going to make an effort to post something every couple of days. The more I shoot, the better I feel, the happier I am, and the better father, husband, and teacher I become. So thanks all for the inspiration to step out and enjoy something I have always loved but seem to have forgotten to enjoy!

Took my new Canon 50D out for a few shot as the sun was fading tonight. I didn't take a tripod with me, so a bit of camera shake if inspected close, but still a nice shot I think for a quick grab.

Turned a corner and found that I was face to face with this cougar taking down this cow elk. It was amazing even though it was in Cabela's! The expression on the cougars face is absolutely amazing.

Another glorious day in the sun out shooting baseball. Love my new 50D and it's 5 to 6fps! This is one of a series of about 8 shots that caught the runner sliding safely into 3rd base.

Currently I am an American History and Government teacher in Arizona, but at one time in my life I worked as a photojournalist for several newspapers and owned a small studio. I put my camera down for about 10 years while I was raising my family and concentrating on my teaching career, but I have recently had my passion reignited. Chihuly the Art of Glass : As I wandered the garden admiring the work of Dale Chihuly, I was amazed at how well integrated the artwork seemed to flow with the desert surroundings, the cactus, and the blue skies. I have been back several times now to photograph the glass and every time I am still amazed. I hope the photos here will give you the same feeling I had when I viewed the glass for the first time, amazement at how beautiful Mr. Chihuly's work really is! If you ever get the opportunity to see his work in person, I highly recommend it. I will be very saddened to see this fantastic display disappear at the end of May as it truly has inspired me in so many ways.

Original WWII photos : These are from a collection of photos I have had stashed away for many years now collected by my great uncle Louis Pandy. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Africa, Italy, and into Germany. While I was a young boy he would tell me stories of his service and he was a great man. Unfortunately he passed away when I was only 12 so much of what I remember is tempered in youth, but none the less, these pictures bring alive the things he saw and the things he never spoke. How he came across many of these photos, I will never know, others are from his personal collection. I only wish I knew the stories behind the photos and the names of the men he served with.
